RE: [saveenterprise] Another corker! (was:Re: Sequel?)

Speculating on the creative process, it seems the character profile of young genius Kirk's lack of ambition and slacking was inspired by Damon's Good Will Hunting (with Pike playing the role of Robin Williams), and his last minute enrollment into starfleet was reminiscent of Cruise in Top Gun.  (that's not to say that those elements were cheap ripoff from earlier blockbusters, but that all three drew from universal, mythic archetypes).
