[saveenterprise] Re: Digest Number 1068

I doubt very much if Manny Coto will ever be permitted to do 'official' Trek again, as much as I'd like to see it happen. The suits won't allow it.

Just my 2 bars worth of latinum....

To my personal opinion, this movie is a bit TOO much stressed to the youth.

True, something had to be done. Paramount had really succeeded in digging the grave for Star Trek.
I cann't help but think how Gene Roddenberry would react on this film.
(I still convinced it should have been given to Manny Coto).

Why am I a bit disappointed ? I guess I have to admit the fact they did change the time line. But it is more than that.
What I feel is like they just WANTED to reboot. But they realised a simple reboot would just turn away most of the fans. So hey, let's come up with something so we can still reboot. That is what makes me most sad. We live in an age of rebooting everything. They, the suits finally get what THEY want.

Don't get me wrong, I still will go and watch and see it grow. We'll see how things will go.

[saveenterprise] Re: Digest Number 1068

It is indeed good to talk.

Seems the feelings are very divided.

Re: [saveenterprise] Re: Digest Number 1068

Me, I'm still trying to imagine Walter Koenig with curly hair. :)  And I'm not completely sure if Chris Pine looks like a younger William Shatner.  But I think the rest look pretty close.

But, personally, I think everybody is entitled to their own opinion.  Star Trek is big enough for everybody.  Some fans hated the new movie because of the changes, I'm sure.  To be honest, I didn't know what to make of the film the first time I saw it.  I liked it, but it was so radically different than TOS in many ways.  It took me seeing it a second time before I could really apperciate it.

Of course, I suspect some new fans will like no other Trek BESIDES the new film.  And that's cool too.  But I get the feeling most fans DO like the new film while simitaneously liking the series and movies in the "original universe."

I believe Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations applies to Trek and Trek fans too.  For those who just like the "original universe," it still "exists"... as much as any other fictional universe exists :).  I'm sure they'll continue to make novels, comic books, etc. using that one.  And who knows, Paramount might even go back there with a series (although, right now, I doubt it.  But how would that really be all that different if this film DIDN'T do that well?)

And for those who like the alternate reality, not only will there be future movies, I have no doubt they'll be future novels, comics, and such too.
