Re: [saveenterprise] Re: Star Trek Reboot Hype

Manny the savior of Trek?  season four wasn't that bad, but it wasn't the best of ENTERPRISE.  I don't see, or get, the fascination with Manny Coto.....

Abrams would have treated (and will treat) any Trek the same as he treated his Trek movie: lots of action, a little sex and some minor foul language here and there to perk up the eyes and ears, lots of special effects, fast scene changes and new twists on an original theme so's to put his stamp on it. That's how. It's anybody's guess where he's going to take young Spock now that his planet is gone. Will Spock still try be devoid of emotion or will Abrams have him revert back to his violent ancestral roots every now and then just to make things exciting?
Yes, Manny would have been a great asset had he been attached to Enterprise from the outset because he realized its potential. Now I miss Trek TV (virtually all Trek is missing from my TV now) and any quality programming that would have followed.

le_dartagnan,

No argument there. After Manny dispensed with the (rather silly) alien Nazis story, virtually all of Season 4 was pure gold, as it got the series back on its original track: the lead-in for, and run-up to, TOS. Damned shame that the series was doomed by Paramount big-shots early on in Season 4. I've always felt that the season-long Xindi-arc, though ambitious and as well-brought- off as it was, actually took the series off-course. Manny put it back where it belonged, but was ultimately torpedoed for his good work. No matter what anyone feels about ENTERPRISE's concept, I feel that it was a very necessary show to do. One wonders how that storyline will fare in the Abrams ST Universe.

Re: [saveenterprise] Star Trek Reboot Hype

Shatner, Nimoy, TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager and last and my favorite because it had so much potential, Enterprise. The Reboot was a great, special effects action movie for the new crowd, but that's all it was. Just a great scifi movie for the new crowd. I haven't reserved the DVD yet. I may get it after Christmas when it goes on sale.

Hi,

With all this reboot hype, I was wondering :

Who is the real :

- Capt. Kirk

Shatner or Pine ?

- Mr Spock
Nimoy or Quinto ?

Which Star Trek ?

TOS

or

Reboot ?

Don't get me wrong, this movie is a great Action Movie... but Star Trek will always be TOS, TNG.... without changed timelines.
Sorry, but I'm one of those.

Re: [saveenterprise] Star Trek Reboot Hype

I enjoyed both.  Both had their own merits and pitfalls.  I'll watch any Star Trek episode/movie right now.

Re: [saveenterprise] I FOUND IT!!!!

If you liked the comments on Porthos, you need to read the novelization for the movie.

The measure of how good a film is, is how many times you go back to view it again....and again. This one's in that category. In fact, I remember when "ST:TMP" came out, I remember telling friends that, while there would be a "Star Trek II", it would have to be much better or there would never be a "Star Trek III". [saveenterprise] Re: "Der Tag"

So is it worth chucking the extra cash into the 2 disc edition DVD? I tried reading the text on the back of the UK edition but without my glasses it was all fuzzy. How long are the deleted scenes?

Extras according to Play.com
--------------------------
# Commentary by director J.J. Abrams, writers Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman, producer Damon Lindelof and executive producer Bryan Burk.
# A New Vision - J.J. Abrams vision was not only to create a Star Trek that was a bigger, more action-packed spectacle, but also to make the spectacle feel real. Every aspect of production-from unique locations to the use of classic Hollywood camera tricks was guided by this overall objective.
# Gag Reel-Bloopers featuring the entire principal cast.
# Deleted Scenes with Optional Commentary
# To Boldly Go - Taking on the world's most beloved science fiction franchise was no small mission. Director J.J. Abrams, writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, producer Damon Lindelof, and executive producer Bryan Burk talk about the many challenges they faced and their strategy for success.
# Casting - The producers knew their greatest task was finding the right cast to reprise these epic roles. The cast, for their part, talk about the experience of trying to capture the essence of these mythic characters. The piece concludes with a moving tribute to Leonard Nimoy. Aliens - Designers Neville Page and Joel Harlow talk about the hurdles they faced creating new alien species, recreating the Romulans and Vulcans, and designing the terrifying creatures on Delta Vega for the new Star Trek.
# Score - As a fan of the original series, composer Michael Giacchino embraced the challenge of creating new music for Star Trek while preserving the spirit of Alexander Courage's celebrated theme.
